Vespertine Formations

This is a music-themed blog by The Man Octave (themanoctave.tumblr.com). I can't follow you back on this blog, but if I like your blog I'll follow you on my main.

I'm a Junior in college studying Instrumental and Vocal Music Education, with a primary on trumpet and an intended Jazz minor. My passion lies in Marching Band/Drum Corps, Jazz, and worship music, but I understand the importance of teaching all disciplines and all musical concepts. You can also view my online teaching portfolio by clicking the world icon below.

This blog will serve as a place to express my thoughts and share my love of music throughout my endeavors as a musician. Mostly, you'll just see pictures of instruments, but I like to post education related things as well. Enjoy!

If I ever finish this dang thing, I’ll be posting my philosophical statement on music education.

This is basic premise of the essay: Why is it important for all music educators, regardless of specialty, to develop and maintain a high level of practical musicianship as it relates to singing and the ability to play a social instrument (i.e. piano, guitar, etc.)?

In it I’m supposed to include specific examples of how I will utilize the skills and knowledge I’ve gained so far in my future teaching. Also, I’m supposed to speculate the disadvantages of not possessing such skills.

So yeah, that’s that. When I post it, I hope you can all gain something valuable from it that maybe you can apply in your own musical development, whether you’re an educator, professional musician, or casual listener.

EDIT: So here she is! My night’s work. Read it here.
